The performance Zones Limitrophes is a duet for bass clarinet and live electronics. It originates from an artistic research project that began in early 2023 between Luz Gonzalez and Rebecca Minten.
The electronics manipulated by González were developed in collaboration with the clarinetist to create an instrument that adapts to her acoustics while pushing the boundaries of sound.
One of the central focuses is exploring the potential of low registers in both the bass clarinet and the digital setup. The performance is both heard and felt.
The electronics can be dependent or independent of the bass clarinet and are not considered merely an extension of the traditional instrument. Instead, they assume different roles: soloist, accompanist, counterpoint, etc.
The piece is a composition based on improvisation, navigating through live musical interactions between the performers, space, and time, as well as the eclectic backgrounds of the two musicians.
Rebecca’s classical and folk influences interact melodically with passages of Luz’ pure noise and industrial sounds.
Luz and Rebecca explore multisensory perception and the subtleties of their intricate interaction.
The piece is performed at Sonorities Festival Belfast, Vekks Wien, Noiseberg Berlin, Hosek Contemporary Berlin, Morphine Raum, Echoraum Wien, Neue Musik St-Ruprecht, Klub Primi in Copenhagen etc.
